The Jerusalem Post ran an article yesterday (March 5) showing how serious the Israelis are about attacking Iran in the near future. It starts out by saying,
Israel is seriously considering taking unilateral military action to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, according to a report by top US political figures and experts released Wednesday.

The report in question is entitled, "Preventing a Cascade of Instability." Yes, of course. If any Arab country became powerful enough to face down the bully on the block, things would indeed become unstable, because then the bullies would no longer be able to beat up the little guys with immunity. People would actually start fighting back, and this would destabilize the whole region.
The Israelis developed nuclear weapons back in the late 1960's at Dimona. They don't want any competition, so that they are free to pursue the expansion of their territory from the Nile to the Euphrates ("Greater Israel") without threat of their neighbors fighting back. But in real life, it has become an arms race of sorts. Well, not really. The "race" was already won by the Israelis back in the late 60's. It is more of an arms "catch-up."
From any neighbor's point of view, if the Israelis have the right to have nuclear weapons, so does everyone else. While that is certainly legally correct, it is not the reality of power politics, which is more about wanting a military advantage over one's neighbors.
This is playing out on a secondary level, too, as the above article shows:
She noted that the timetable for an Israeli attack might be "significantly" moved up if Jerusalem believed Russia was going to make good on its pledge to supply Iran with the S-300 surface-to-air missile system, which would greatly complicate any Israeli attack.
If the delivery does occur, the report recommends more arms sales to Israel, such as more modern aircraft, so it can maintain its military edge.
It appears that Russia has agreed to sell a supply of S-300 surface-to-air missiles, so that the Iranians would actually be able to defend themselves against an Israeli attack. Well, we can't have that, can we? The only way to ensure "stability" in the region is to make sure no one has the ability to defend himself from an Israeli attack.
It's about maintaining a "military edge." That's the understatement of the century, considering the 300+ nukes that the Israelis have. How much military edge do they want? All of it, of course. Enough to ensure that they are able to keep all the land that they stole or captured from those who want it back. Palestinians question the Israeli STATE's right to exist. The Israelis question the Palestinian PEOPLE's right to exist.
From the Christian Zionist point of view, the Israelis can do no wrong, except for unpardonable sin of thinking that God may actually love Palestinians, too. No matter how violent the Zionists are, no matter who they murder, no matter how much land they take, no matter how many Palestinians they starve for the sin of "fighting back," there is no limit to the Zionist rights under God to do all the things that Jesus Himself forbids. To them, there is only one overriding issue--expel or kill all Palestinians, whether Muslim or Christian, and make way for Jewish occupation. It's "the will of God," after all, and to question this is an affront to God Himself. And they really believe this with a straight face.
I marvel at the blindness. I would have no explanation for it, except for Scripture that speaks of this very blindness upon (true) Israel. The Israeli Zionists do violence with eyes wide open, because it is part of their ideology. Christians do it out of blindness, because they think the Jews are fulfilling the prophecies of the restoration of biblical Israel. And they do not know enough history to understand how all of this is based upon a case of mistaken identity that began when Jacob first claimed to be Esau. Today, Esau's descendants, who were incorporated into Judea in 126 B.C., claim to be Jacob.
I get plenty of opposition from various groups, but not one of them even dares answer the simple historical fact that Judah incorporated Edom in 126 B.C. and must therefore fulfill two sets of prophecy. Nor does anyone dare to comment on Jesus' statement in Matt. 21:19 about the fig tree NEVER bearing fruit again. In fact, they do not answer ANY of the Scriptures that I bring up for their honest review. They have an agenda and cannot be bothered with the facts. Their objections are always based upon peripheral things that take up time but are not central to the issue.
I know that I cannot do anything to prevent the disaster coming upon the Israelis, as per Isaiah 28 and Jer. 19. The most I can do is to enlighten some individuals as the danger that they face, and hope that they move out of the way before it hits. Yet I also know that this will not be the end of the world. There are at least a thousand years lying ahead of us, a Tabernacles Age, which will be fulfilled here on an earth full of nations who will come to the true Mount Zion of Heb. 12:22 to learn His Laws and His ways (Is. 2:2-4).
This is our primary business today, and we must be about our Father's business. A big part of that business is to prepare our hearts for the times ahead so that we will have sufficient faith in God to withstand the fear that will come upon the earth. It is bad enough that we have to face economic fear, but I believe that this will eventually take more violent forms. As believers, we are not to participate in such fear-based violence. It is our job to build faith in God and to work to establish His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
