Bahrain is a small island nation in the Persian Gulf sitting offshore from Saudi Arabia. Its king is Sunni Muslim, but 70% of its citizens are Shi'ite Muslim. This is a potentially explosive situation, and because America's Fifth Fleet is based there, we too are caught up in the trouble.

"For those who were in the traffic circle known as Pearl Square when the police opened fire without warning on thousands who were sleeping there, it was a day of shock and disbelief. Many of the hundreds taken to the hospital were wounded by shotgun blasts, doctors said, their bodies speckled with pellets or bruised by rubber bullets or police clubs. . . .
"A surgeon, who asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals, said that for hours on Thursday the Health Ministry prevented ambulances even from going to the scene to aid victims. The doctor said that in the early morning, when the assault was still under way, police officers beat a paramedic and a doctor and refused to allow medical staff to attend to the wounded. News agencies in Bahrain reported that the health minister, Faisal al-Hamar, resigned after doctors staged a demonstration to protest his order barring ambulances from going to the square."
The king of Bahrain does not seem to understand that such brutal tactics will backfire on him. Tunisia's Ben Ali and Egypt's Mubarak did not understand this either. They each employed the old fear tactics that worked so well in the past, not realizing that there is a new awakening in the Middle East, and things are just plain different now.
He should be more careful, since it appears that comas are contagious.
Old Covenant religions rule by fear. When the fear factor is gone, nations fall, and this also undermines the religions themselves. The king is trying to restore fear in order to keep his throne secure. But God is preparing the hearts and minds of the people in the Middle East for the New Covenant. Right now, they are becoming dissatisfied, but they do not yet understand that the root cause of their political oppression is that their rulers (as well as the citizens themselves) are steeped in centuries of Old Covenant thinking.
When they see true New Covenant Christianity in action, manifested in the Sons of God, they will then understand what they have been missing all along. This year (2011) we are seeing the emergence of the New Creation Man that is to be glorified by the presence of God. I do not know how long it will take for this new body of people to emerge fully, but I do believe that it is beginning this year.
The upheavals in the Middle East are preparing the soil for a massive tsunami of the Holy Spirit that is heading their way.
Continue praying toward that end.
