Consequences of the Israeli-Hamas war

It is being reported that on October 6, more than 800 Israeli settlers stormed the mosque in Jerusalem and that this sparked the war with Hamas.

More than 800 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Thursday morning under the protection of Israeli forces.

Rabbis, heads of settlement associations, and far-right university lecturers were among 832 people who forced their way into the religious site compound, a source in the Islamic Endowments Department in Jerusalem told The New Arab's Arabic sister site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

While this event is being used to justify the attacks, it is clear that this attack had been planned a long time in advance. It is more likely that the invasion of the Mosque was a convenient trigger point to gain support for the attack.

The Times of Israel reports that Israel ignored repeated warnings that something big was soon to happen.

Cairo official says Israel focused on West Bank instead of Gaza; Egypt’s spy chief said to warn PM of ‘terrible operation,’ Netanyahu denies it.

Mounting questions over Israel’s massive intelligence failure to anticipate and prepare for a surprise Hamas assault were compounded Monday when an Egyptian intelligence official said that Jerusalem had ignored repeated warnings that the Gaza-based terror group was planning “something big” — which included an apparent direct notice from Cairo’s intelligence minister to the prime minister.

The Egyptian official said Egypt, which often serves as a mediator between Israel and Hamas, had spoken repeatedly with the Israelis about “something big,” without elaborating….

Netanyahu denied receiving any such advance warning, saying in the course of an address to the nation Monday night that the story was “fake news…”

In one of the said warnings, Egypt’s Intelligence Minister General Abbas Kamel personally called Netanyahu only 10 days before the massive attack that Gazans were likely to do “something unusual, a terrible operation,” according to the Ynet news site.

Unnamed Egyptian officials told the site they were shocked by Netanyahu’s indifference to the news and said the premier told the minister the military was “submerged” in troubles in the West Bank….

Israel’s intelligence agencies have gained an aura of invincibility over the decades because of a string of achievements. Israel has foiled plots seeded in the West Bank, allegedly hunted down Hamas operatives in Dubai and has been accused of killing Iranian nuclear scientists in the heart of Iran. Even when their efforts have stumbled, agencies like the Mossad, Shin Bet and military intelligence have maintained their mystique.

But the weekend’s assault, which caught Israel off guard on a major Jewish holiday, plunges that reputation into doubt and raises questions about the country’s readiness in the face of a weaker but determined foe.

It seems unlikely that Israeli intelligence could be taken off guard in such a massive way. Many Israelis are questioning their capability, while others are wondering if this was all part of a larger plan to sacrifice a few Israelis for the “greater good” of eliminating Gaza’s population altogether.

Unthinkable? Impossible? Well, according to Jewish author, Alfred Lilienthal,

“Violence was often used against their own, as on November 25, 1940, when the S.S. Patria was blown up in the Haifa harbor, killing 276 illegal Jewish immigrant passengers. At the time of the incident these deaths were attributed to the British, and it was not until ten years later that the responsibility for this disaster was placed at the door of the Zionists. David Flinker, Israeli correspondent of the Jewish Morning Journal (the largest Yiddish daily) described what had happened:

“… ‘It was then that the Haganah General Staff took a decision at which their leaders shuddered. The decision was not to permit the Patria to leave Jaffa. The English must be given to understand that Jews could not be driven away from their own country. The Patria must be blown up…. The number of victims was officially placed at 276. The survivors were permitted by the High Commissioner to land.’

“Fifteen months later the S.S. Struma exploded in the Black Sea, killing 769 illegal Jewish immigrants. The Jewish Agency described it as an act of ‘mass-protest and mass-suicide,’ and the U.S. media once more placed the responsibility for these deaths at the door of the British and their Palestinian immigration policy.” (The Zionist Connection II, p. 359, quoted in my book, The Struggle for the Birthright, page 134)

Former Prime Minister Menachem Begin also commented on the sinking of the S.S. Patria, telling us that the Jewish Agency was willing to sacrifice innocent Jews in the 1940’s in order to win sympathy from the West. As head of the Irgun terrorist organization in those days, Begin was the “Number One terrorist,” as he himself proudly proclaimed in his book. He was emphatic to state that he himself opposed the policy of killing Jews in order to gain sympathy, but he did not hesitate to expose the mainstream Jewish Agency (Haganah).

Begin wrote on pages 35, 36 of his book, The Revolt,

“The Patria never sailed [out of Jaffa harbor]. Jewish ‘terrorists’ placed a bomb to prevent its departure. The bomb exploded and more than two hundred Jews were killed or drowned. The British authorities noted the fact that this was not an Irgun Zvai Leumi operation; it was the Haganah which had placed the bomb.”

The principle of sacrificing one’s own people for a supposed “greater good” is common among most intelligence agencies. Wars are often the way that national leaders obtain unity or gain popularity when their polls are unfavorable. The examples above simply show that such actions are not unknown to Jewish intelligence agencies as well. So with the recent “unexpected” attack by Hamas, are we really supposed to believe that Israeli Intelligence was taken by surprise? Their own reputation for efficiency makes that hard for many Israelis to believe.

The problem is that they are faced with only two real choices. Either the government had a massive intelligence failure, or they were, in some way, in on it. Yet it seems like a strange coincidence that war would break out at a time where the country was divided and in need of unity. Who organized the settlers’ invasion of the Al-Aqsa Mosque? Surely not Hamas. Did some faction in the Israeli government organize this in order to provide plausible reasons for the Hamas attack just two days later?

There are too many troubling coincidences to dismiss outright.

No doubt the truth will come out eventually. But as one official said, “We will fight now and investigate later.” That is probably the only practical solution, but at the same time it means that the soldiers are fighting somewhat blindly for a cause that is hidden from them. This happens in virtually every war around the world, where the people are given reasons for war that are not the real reasons.

Every war has consequences that no one anticipates. It has been said that the best war plan becomes obsolete on the first day of battle. It is almost certain that Hamas will run out of rockets and ammunition soon. They cannot win this fight but because they are driven by ideology, it is also certain that the Palestinians in Gaza will suffer greatly and will probably lose the strip of land altogether. Short-term satisfaction at seeing the death of some Israelis will come at a far greater cost among the Palestinians.

This war also forces all of the Islamic countries to take sides against the Israelis, driving a huge wedge into global unity. The Ukraine war has already destroyed globalism, but the war with Hamas is another factor that fractures the world. Are we seeing a final rush toward the battle of Armageddon?

At the time, I wondered if this might be a final countdown toward the fall of the Israeli state. Again, note that the Harvesting Angels were released on September 28, which seems to mark the time where the tares start to be gathered at the end of the age (Matthew 13:39, 40).

It seems that the Hamas attack is probably a major indicator that this has begun. Time will prove all things, including the way in which we should interpret it. Right now it is too early to see or predict the course of events. Yet because the Hamas attack occurred on the 8^th day of Tabernacles—the last day of the previous Prophetic Year—it seems that the Year of the Harvesting Angels began the same day—October 7. Normally, we see a few weeks interim before the next Prophetic Year begins.

The important thing is to note that we have now entered the 7^th year in the cycle leading to 2024, which I have discussed many times. Next year will be 70 Jubilees since the Jordan Crossing under Joshua.
