In the Old Testament types and shadows of greater things to come, most Christians today seem to miss the fact that the kings of Canaan were prophetic types of the nations today. Yet it is imperative to understand this, if we are to compare and contrast Joshua's Old Covenant conquest of Canaan with Christ's New Covenant conquest of the nations. Each method was designed to establish a kingdom, but we must understand the necessary alterations that were made with the advent of the New Covenant.
The most obvious difference is that the weapon of the Old Covenant was the carnal sword, which had the power only to kill and destroy Canaanites. If the Israelites had found the faith to draw near to God at Mount Sinai on that first day of Pentecost, they might have received the spiritual sword which is the word of God. But their fear prevented this and delayed the spiritual sword for another 1500 years. Once Jesus' disciples were given that spiritual sword on Pentecost in Acts 2, the entire method of establishing the Kingdom was altered forever. So Jesus told them in Matthew 28:19, 20,
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you...
Baptism signifies death and resurrection, while physical swords can only kill.
Note also that Christ's Great Commission was directed toward "all nations," whereas Joshua's commission was directed at the Canaanites. Hence, the Canaanites were a type and shadow of the nations today. The second coming of Christ is not for the purpose of destroying the nations but of saving them and incorporating them into His Kingdom.
Canaan itself was a type of the Kingdom, and as long as it was ruled by Canaanite kings, the true inheritors of the Promised Land remained as strangers and pilgrims in the land. As we saw earlier, the garments of authority were usurped by Ham and Canaan, and this set up a situation that would have to be resolved later at the appointed time. In Canaan's case, that time was 2 x 414 years later, ending when Joshua crossed the Jordan. In our time, the time of Babylon's usurpation of the earth has also followed 414-year cycles, yet its time was much longer than that which was given to the Canaanites.
The final end of Babylon's time arrives in 2024, which is 70 Jubilees since Joshua's Jordan crossing. In a way, this runs parallel to Judah's 70-year captivity to Babylon (604-534 B.C.). We can view this in terms of 70 x 49 or 7 x 490 years. The number 490, of course, is Blessed Time.
The year 2024 (Hebrew time) began in September 2023 on the Feast of Trumpets, so we are already in the final year. We ought to see the fall of Babylon by the end of 2024.
From Joshua's Jordan crossing to the year 1492 was precisely 7 x 414 years. Most people will recall that 1492 was when Columbus sailed the Atlantic, opening up the New World and changing history forever. It is most unfortunate that these "Christians" did not have a good grasp of the New Covenant, and so they conquered the New World by the power of Old Covenant swords, as if the native Americans were Canaanites who were on Cursed Time. So God began to resolve this problem by adding 7 cycles of 76 years. (414 + 76 = 490).
This served to bring the nations from Cursed Time (414) to Blessed Time (490). The final 76-year cycle is from 1948-2024, which links it to the Zionist state--the manifestation of Edom. The Edomite faction took advantage of Isaac's blindness to retake the birthright by a case of mistaken identity. This was the reversal of what occurred in the book of Genesis when Jacob took advantage of Isaac's blindness to steal the birthright by pretending to be Esau. But now, after 76 years, Esau-Edom has been given the justice that was due to him, and he has proven himself to be unworthy of the birthright. The Zionists still have no faith in Christ, and their Old Covenant methods of establishing their "kingdom" has been unacceptable to God.
From the UN Resolution 181 on November 29, 1947 to the same date in 2023 is precisely 76 years. There is still no sign of repentance, but instead, they are engaged in a war of extermination against the Palestinians of Gaza. This is the prime evidence that they still reject the Mediator of the New Covenant, Jesus Christ. Now that these 76 years have been completed, there only remains a time of judgment upon the Zionist state.
In most cases, judgment comes at the end of 414 years (for nations) or 414 days (for individuals)--or some multiple. But I have also seen cases where a more deadly judgment comes after 490 years. This was set forth in Matthew 18:21, 22,
21 Then came Peter to Him and said, "Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?" 22 Jesus saith unto him, "I say not unto thee, till seven times; but until seventy times seven."
In other words, 490 (or 70 x 7) is a forgiveness cycle, after which time, the "nobleman" took account of his servants and their debts. This principle is seen most clearly in Daniel's 70 weeks (70 x 7 years), after which time, Jesus paid the debt of the world using His own blood as currency. During that 490-year cycle, Judah (as a nation) found forgiveness once a year on the Day of Atonement, but after God had forgiven them 490 times, the books had to be balanced and the debts dealt with.
In the parable in Matthew 18 that illustrates the answer to Peter's question, we see that if one appeals to Him for grace, it is readily given, and the debt is cancelled. But if the same person cannot forgive the small debt that his neighbor owes him, then he remains liable for his greater debt. In other words, in this cycle of 490 times of forgiveness, if he has not learned to forgive, then he will lose the opportunity to benefit from the Jubilee, which cancels all debt. (Sin is reckoned as a debt in Scripture.)
So it seems clear (to me) that the 76 years from 1948-2024 has been a time wherein Esau-Edom has had opportunity to turn to Christ, adopt the New Covenant, be a blessing to all nations, and to have a heart of forgiveness. In all of these things, they have failed. There is, perhaps, one more opportunity for them to declare a Jubilee, by dating the 76 years from May 14, 1948 until May 14, 2024. Time will tell.
