We have taken the five ministry gifts (Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers, Prophets, and Apostles) as an outline for the courses of Bible study in this School.
Our purpose is to equip those who are ministering with a knowledge of the Word, so that each will be more effective in fulfilling his or her calling.
Learn MoreA couple of weeks ago a friend (John) in a prison ministry asked me to video two sessions on the milk of the word and the meat of the word. We did so two days ago (Saturday). It was set up as a conversational interview, somewhat informal, and it went very well.
John told me that inmates had requested to be taught the deeper things in the Word, because so many preachers had been giving them no in-depth teaching. They were just “evangelizing the choir,” as they say. So we gave them some good meat to chew.
Another problem is that the prisons themselves were becoming more and more stringent on printed material coming into the prisons. So this particular nationwide ministry was starting to put together videos to replace the books and tracts. John thought of me, and so he asked me to do two videos. These will be used around the country.
John used to live in our area some years ago. Back in the 1990’s he asked me to do some teaching at a prison facility just north of Minneapolis. He also put a lot of my audio tapes into the prison library for inmates to hear. Then he moved to Missouri. We had been in touch once in a while, but I had not seen him in many years. He drove to Minnesota, where he hired a couple of young men to do the videos and to edit them.
I got to the location a half hour early, because I did not know exactly how long it would take to drive there. My son drove me, of course, and he helped me navigate the stairs. While waiting for John to arrive, I was asked by one of the young men what I do. I told him I write weblogs, Bible studies mainly. He asked what I wrote “today” (Saturday), and this turned into a conversation about the fate of Jerusalem and the current war between Israel and Iran. I trust that there were some seeds planted that will bear fruit in his life hereafter.
Dr. Stephen Jones has been writing blog posts since 2005 on a variety of topics from Bible Studies to World News, and he has been writing books since 1992. Dr. Jones' most important writings came after God brought him back into the full-time ministry in 1991. It is here that all his earlier years of searching the Scriptures began to come into clear focus. He combines a knowledge of the Old and New Testaments with a personal revelation of God that began and developed during the "wilderness" period of his life, which he often refers to as God's True Bible College...
