Chapter 18: No King in Israel

In Chapter 17 we looked at the connection between the fall of Samaria and the construction of Washington D.C., which shows how America, on a national level, is the primary fulfillment of the restoration of the lost House of Israel. We looked at the 12 cycles of 210 years, which is (2,520 years, or “seven times”) from 721 B.C. to 1800 A.D.

Strangely enough, we also see two more of these cycles, one at either end. From the death of Solomon and the division of the kingdom to the fall of Samaria (931-721 B.C.) is 210 years. At the other end, from 1800-2010 is another 210 years.

So we see a longer cycle of 14 x 210 years, which is 2,940 years, extending from the start of the Divided Kingdom to the year 2010 in our time. This also happens to be 6 x 490 years, or 60 x 49 (i.e., 60 Jubilees). To see how various time cycles are interwoven in history shows the handiwork of God in an amazing way.

But there is another way of reckoning prophetic time that also intersects with the year 2010. It is the 390-year cycle, which is a number denoting the time of “No King in Israel.”

The Time of the Judges

The main theme of the book of Judges (written by Samuel) is seen in the final verse of the book. Judges 21:25 says,

25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

Samuel was referring to God’s warning in Deut. 12:8, 9, which was given to the people in the plains of Moab just before they crossed the Jordan into the land which God, at that time, had given them as their Old Covenant inheritance.

8 You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes; 9 for you have not as yet come to the resting place and the inheritance which the Lord your God is giving you.

Samuel’s lament was repeated three more times (Judges 17:6; 18:1; 19:1). The real inheritance, of course, is to enter God’s rest, of which the land of Canaan was a prophetic type and shadow. Heb. 4:8-10 says,

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

Our goal is to enter God’s rest—a term that refers specifically to the Jubilee rest, where all debts are canceled and where every man returns to his lost inheritance. There are three main levels of entering rest, and these are depicted by the Sabbath day, the Sabbath year, and the double Sabbath in the 49th and 50th years (Jubilee).

The real goal, says the author of Hebrews, is to enter God’s rest, and this cannot be accomplished merely by inheriting a piece of land or by returning to the land of Canaan. The problem is that the Israelites crossed into that land without achieving the inner condition of rest that God had set as our true inheritance.

So we find that the Israelites brought their hardened hearts with them into the Promised Land. So we read in Judges 2:11, 12, 13,

11 Then the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals, 12 and they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked the Lord to anger. 13 So they forsook the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.

God then brought them into a series of six captivities, beginning just 42 years after they had crossed the Jordan. It seems that they were given (in years) the measure of a reed, which is 42 handbreadths. The long struggle with paganism was never fully overcome, because the people had not truly entered God’s rest. Their carnal minds were darkened, and they could not receive the revelation of God. Hence, they tried to reach God by the power of their own works, not realizing that their false gods would only enslave them.

So God put them in bondage to the chosen people of those false gods. God said, in effect, “If you think the gods of the foreigners are the true God, then I will put you under the dominion of the chosen people of Baal and Molech.” Only when the people repented did God raise up a judge to deliver them from these captivities. But each deliverance proved to be temporary, for their freedom lasted only a generation or two before they resumed their worship of false gods.

This was the condition that Samuel described as doing what was right in their own eyes.

Their first captivity lasted eight years (Judges 3:8), ending with their first Jubilee in the land of Canaan (42 + 8 = 50). So on their first Jubilee, dating from their Jordan crossing, God raised up Othniel as their first Judge (Judges 3:9). It is with Othniel that the actual time of the Judges began. It was 90 years after their exodus from Egypt—40 years in the wilderness, and 50 years in the land of Canaan.

In those days there was no king in Israel, because it was the time of the Judges. Finally, when the people demanded a king, God gave them the best in the land—King Saul. After him came King David and then Solomon. Solomon began to build the temple 480 years after Israel had come out of Egypt. We read in 1 Kings 6:1,

1 Now it came about in the four hundred and eightieth year after Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord.

The point is that the foundation of the temple was laid 480 years after the exodus (1 Kings 6:1). This was 390 years after Othniel was raised up to be Israel’s first Judge (480 minus 90 years). When the foundation of the temple was laid, it portrayed (as a prophetic type) laying the foundation of Christ, the true King of Israel. So Paul says in 1 Cor. 3:11,

11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Jesus is also the King, as this was the revelation given to Mary by the angel in Luke 1:32, saying, “the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.”

So we see that in the original pattern (or type), there was no king in Israel for 390 years. This was seen as a national infirmity, because 39 is the biblical number of infirmity. The number is written with two Hebrew letters: lamed (“authority”) and teth (“serpent”). It pictures the rule of the serpent (in the garden). We also read in 2 Chron. 16:12, “in the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet.”

(See my book, The Biblical Meaning of Numbers.)

The number 390 is built upon the number 39, and when applied to time and chronology, it is a time of being under the authority of the serpent, a time of national infirmity. The positive side of the number, however, is that this time ends after 390 years when Christ is laid as the only true foundation, so that we now have a King.

Israel’s Long Captivity

Samaria was conquered by the Assyrians after a 3-year siege in 721 B.C. That was when the last king of Israel was imprisoned and later killed. Six cycles of 390 years later (2,340 years) came to the year 1620, the year that the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in America.

The Pilgrims came seeking the freedom to worship God apart from the Church of England’s formal, dead form of ritualistic worship. They came so that they might truly crown Jesus Christ as their only King, and they rejected the King of England as the head of the Church. Their motto was “No King but Jesus.”

The seventh 390-year cycle was from 1620-2010. The year 2010 coincided with the end of the 210-year cycle from 1800-2010 and again with the 6 x 490 years from the Divided Kingdom (931 B.C.) to the year 2010. The year 2010 was truly a historic year leading (7 years later) to the year 2017, where the Saints of the Most High were given the Dominion Mandate.

Two National Rallies to Proclaim Jesus King

On August 28, 2010, Glenn Beck held a rally at the Lincoln Memorial that attracted a half million people. They gathered to proclaim Jesus King in America. The rally was held on the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech declaring “I Have a Dream.” The rally in 2010 was to tell the world that we have a “dream” that Jesus Christ would be King.

What are the odds that Glenn Beck would celebrate the crowning of Jesus as King in America on the anniversary of the most famous speech by Dr. King? In fact, his niece, Dr. Alveda King, spoke at the rally, and she too gave honor to Jesus Christ as King.

It is doubtful that Glenn Beck knew that he was fulfilling a 390-year prophecy since 1620. Nonetheless, it was a huge time marker.

In fact, the Promise Keepers had held a similar rally 13 years earlier in 1997 to crown Jesus King. That rally was held 390 years after the founding of the Jamestown colony in 1607. Jamestown was the first successful British colony in America.

Between these two rallies, Jesus was proclaimed to be America’s King. Once again, these “coincidences” of timing show America’s connection to the House of Israel. It was 7 x 390 years from the fall of Samaria to Glenn Beck’s rally to proclaim Jesus King in 2010.

By understanding these cycles of time, we can have a better vision of the Kingdom. America literally means The Heavenly Kingdom in the Old English and Saxon tongue. If we do not know that the founding of America marked the start of Israel’s restoration, we will not have a clear vision of the divine plan in the earth and how God is building His Kingdom here on earth. At some point, America will recognize its King and will throw off the authority of the serpent that currently rules the world.
